New Shivalay
(Iqbal’s Naya Shivala)
(Iqbal’s Naya Shivala)
May I tell the truth O, Brahmin! if thou dost not mind,
The idols of thy temple are outdated,
Thou hast learnt the clash of egos from the idols,
Has God taught the preacher to spread hatred?
Being obsessed at last, I left the temples and the mosques,
I gave up preacher’s sermons, and gave up thy stories invented,
In idols of stone, thou thinketh, abides God,
To me every particle of the dust of motherland is sacred.
Come! Let us raise the curtains of strangeness once again,
Let us reunite the separated souls and wipe out the concept of duality,
Settlement of the heart is lying deserted since long,
Come! Let us make a new Shivalay in this country,
Much above the pilgrimages of the world be our pilgrimage,
Let the kalash of it touch the foot of the sky,
Every morning let us get up and sing those sweet mantras,
Let us serve all worshippers with the wine of fraternity,
The song of bhaktas entertains shakti and shanti,
It is preet that ensures all humans their mukti.
Dr. Iqbal's family was originally Kashmiri Saproo Brahmin.
